Here's where you do the work

Oh come on peeps! I'm only asking for a little help for my friends here, that's all. I was going to ask you to clean my windows, but I thought better of it. I will, however, accept all offers of coming over to help us paint on the inside. But this will be discussed, and bargained for in another post.

I generally keep my posting light on the weekends, mainly because everyone seems to disappear during that time. Today will be no different.

Actually, I've got a few places I want you to visit.

First off, you need to go here and cast your vote. The most talented and beautiful Purple Princess has decided to gut her home, and do a complete redesign. Won't you help her decide on the theme? It seems she is revamping alot of her life. She's already had her hair done, and gotten a new, sporty, hot looking Mom-Mobile. I tell you, this woman rocks! By the way, go take a look at all of her place settings while you're there. I need to have this woman come and help me choose the colors of paint I want to use in my house.

And then, there is my sister. She is fighting an uphill battle with the evil nicotine, and so far, she is winning. Go on over and cheer her on. You can tell her I sent you if you like because, being the younger of the two of us, it will give me brownie points. But seriously, go give her kudos. She's doing great so far. There is no doubt in my mind that she will succeed.

See? That's not so hard to do. Go on, visit those two magnificent ladies and give them the help they deserve.

Truth or Dare

Did you ever play truth or dare when you were a child? I used to love that game. When I was a child, I leaned more towards the dare. Now that I've matured (shaddup), I tend to lean more towards truth. It's easy for me to open up on a forum such as this, much easier than it is to do in person. After all, how well do you really know me, or vice versa? It's a great way to share things about yourself, and it's a great way to let your inhibitions go.

So, how about it? Do you choose truth or dare? You comment here, and then I'll post a question, or something for you to do, depending upon which you choose.

Go on, I dare you.

On a general, not so daily surf (at least lately), I came across this really good idea from The Goober Queen.

Please post a comment with a completely fictional memory of you and me. It can be anything you want– good or bad, silly or stupid, believable or not – but it has to be fake. (Don't worry - I'm highly inoffendable!)

When you’re finished, post this paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people don't actually remember about you.

This one was way too good to pass up.

Update: I also see that Mr. Rumble Tummy participated as well.

It just gets better and better.

There has been alot of discussion about mentioning Intelligent Design theories when discussions about Evolution arise in our schools. Both Ruth (she provides some other blog links as well) and Phoenix have some good discussions going.

So, I say, let our children decide for themselves. Perhaps Intelligent Design can't be proven or disproven now. Perhaps Evolution is the real deal. But what does it hurt to expose our children to the entire debate? Can we not trust them to come to their own conclusions? If I had to sit through 4 weeks in a world history class listening to extended discourse on Islam in the 8th grade, including the 5 tenets of Islam, why can't today's students hear about the beliefs of some Christians as it relates to this issue? Learning about Islam didn't turn me into a Muslim. Being exposed to the idea of Intelligent Design isn't going to throw your child to the lions.

What's the big deal? Can't we trust our kids to decide for themselves?

My dad trusted me, and I turned out okay.

I commented over on Ruth's place, and realized that I'd like to introduce this topic over here.

I am, in some ways, on the fence for this one. I've often pondered whether or not evolution and Intelligent Design (creation) could not, in some way, be intermingled. For example, who is to say what Adam looked like? We have formed pictures in our mind because of what we see in books. Ok, that is an oversimplification, but I think you get the idea.

My kids have gone to both private (not religious) and public schools. When we were in California, they attended private schools and both of them got to experience several different religions, and this was often done while studying a particular culture. They enjoyed it quite a bit.

Perhaps I'm naive, but I thoroughly approve I my children being exposed to different values and beliefs, even, as in this case, if it is in science class.

Tell me, can the scientists prove that a greater being did not have a hand in this?

Discuss.

Albeit a little late. It's been a bit hectic here in the Moogie household with the holiday weekend and all. This week's challenge will be open until Monday evening, which should give folks some more time to post.

The concept is simple. A story is started with 25 words in a post, then continued in the comments section.

The rules are very simple:
a) each comment has to be 25 words and
b) no back to back comments, but commenters can come back as often as they like.

Because it's a holiday, we'll add a new twist to the challenge. Work some "known" characters into your posts. From the blogworld. I'll start it off

WitNit slapped at the alarm when it went off early that Monday morning. His sleep filled eyes landed on his thong, lying upon the dresser.

(Sorry Mark, I couldn't resist)

Hat tip to Suzanne, over at Contemblogging. The questions are aimed at me, and how I feel about her. I want you to know that the rumors of our engagement are false, and I never told the reporters about the weekend in Costa Rica. They just found out about it somehow. I swear. We're just friends.

1. Who are you? My name is Moogie, Moogs for short.

2. Are we friends? I think so. Either that, or you feel sorry for me and are beeing truly nice.

3. When and how did we meet? When one of us wandered over to the other's blog. One click, and it was love at first site.

4. Do you have a crush on me? If no….why the hell not? It's more of an obsession. Although, since you and Chase have a restraining order out on me, I've been attending therapy to get over it. Now I just have impulses.

5. Do you read my blog regularily? Absolutely. If I don't, I get the shakes and start to sweat. My therapist calls in adoration withdrawl.

6. Give me a nickname and explain why you picked it. Mermaid. I don't know. It just fits.

7. Describe me in one word. Classy

8. What was your first impression? You were a woman with a wonderful sense of humor, and you have handled some of the tough things in your past life with courage. You love your little man, and Chase's children, and have a deep love for your husband Chase.

9. Do you still think that way about me now? Yes, only more so.

10. What reminds you of me? If I had to narrow it down, I would say sunshine. You are always happy and upbeat, and that's how a wonderful sunny day makes me feel.

11. If you could give me anything what would it be? My chldren. I would give you their clothes and toys too.

12. How well do you know me? Well, mostly through your blog and emails. Sometimes we vent to one another, and that feels good, and safe. You ground me, and get me level again when my temper threatens to explode.

13. When's the last time you saw me? I've not met you yet, but we are working on that.

14. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn't? Yes, but our husband's read our blogs so I can't say it here.

15. Do you feel like your back in high school now? Yes. Shudder.

16. Are you going to put this on your blog and see what I say about you? I just did.

Now, go ahead and answer the questions in the comment section, and let me know how you really feel (and yes Suzanne, this means you too). Then, post it up on your blog as well. Don't forget to leave a link so everyone else can visit.

Tomorrow my baby turns 7. SEVEN. Yes, 7. Where did the time go?

She has informed me that it is time for her to be called someone other than Midget. I've given to understand that she has outgrown the name.

So, I'm opening up the platform to my readers. What should her new name be now that she is going to be SEVEN.YEARS.OLD!!!? Yes, 7. Did I tell you that she was going to be SEVEN tomorrow?

She's going to be the sole judge here, so make it good. I've included a picture of her to help.

Dash, over at The Boiling Point posted his thoughts about the politician’s failed attempt to raise the federally mandated minimum wage.

The entry was well thought out, and he stated his views quite simply. For the most part, I can agree with his analogy, but I think what he has written brings up some interesting questions that I’m not sure there is a concrete answer for.

It is true that most people can’t live on minimum wage alone, but it’s often times difficult for those who can’t, to pick up extra work to supplement their income.

Let’s use a single mom as an example. To further complicate matters, let’s say she got married right out of high school, had children, husband was a schmuck and decided to ditch them, and now she’s alone. Single mother. Broke. She’s never worked before, so what she can get amounts to a low paying job (minimum wage), with little or no benefits.

We’ll take it a step further and say she wants to get completely off of any kind of governmental assistance. With her salary, she’s able to pay the rent, and bills, but has to have assistance for daycare. Keeping that in mind, just exactly where is she going to fit in the time for another job? Assuming that she gets one, who will take care of her kids and how will she pay for that? Wouldn’t that take away any benefits of getting a second job?

If raising the minimum wage would create an economic landslide, then the government needs to provide an alternative for people who are trying to better themselves. This particular example relates to that of a single mom, but there are plenty of others out there.

That’s not to say that there aren’t folks out there that could actually go out and, for lack of a better term, “better themselves,” with a little effort, but what about those who’s hands are tied?

What are your ideas?

In a blantant act of theft, I grabbed this meme from Eric. You are correct in assuming that I have no shame, and will most likely rot in hell for my sins.

Be that as it may....

Instructions:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that “cool” or “intellectual” book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

My good friend Sharon is in the hospital as I write this. She has been for a few days. This morning, at this very moment, she is having a test done which will decide whether she needs an "upgrade" to her pacemaker or not. She has had so much trouble with her heart. Just when she gets to feeling better, finally, this has to happen.

She's a wonderful woman. A devoted mother of three. We are all very worried about her. Won't you please go over and visit and give her some good cheer and well wishes?

Thank you. She means alot to me.

In an attempt to stretch my overly active imagination I'm going to try something different.

What I would like is for you to pick some topics for me to write about. I'd prefer to stay away from politics, it's just not my style. The field is pretty open so anything goes.

So come on folks. Give me some topics. They don't have to be easy. I want to stretch my writing skills (presuming I have any).

Before I start, I'd like to clear one thing up so you won't have to ask. I wear boxers.

Since Sharon has vexed me with an untimely, slow death if I did not participate, I figured it's best if I take this test immediately. I heard her talking with my husband about sharing my new toys I got for Christmas upon my demise (she wants my yellow computer case) and I sensed he was caving (she was bribing him with oatmeal raisin cookies).

Three names you go by:
1. Mom (or Mooooooom)
2. LL
3. Tootsala (don't even think about calling me Toots)

Three screennames you have:
1. Moogie (sorry, if I have more than one, I get an identity crisis)

Three things you like about yourself:
1. My eyes
2. My sense of humor
3. My optimism

Most people can finish these sentences with the words that are well known to us all.

o On the first day of Christmas...
o 'Twas the night before Christmas...

Your mission? Take one (or both) of these sentences, and finish them, using your life experience(s). It doesn't have to be long, or rhyme. One sentence or verse is fine.

I'll start.

Twas the night before Chrastmas, and I had not even started wraping even one of the 4,382 presents I had bought this year.
