I am humbled

Cross posted at Heather's Place.

It's interesting how certain posts can really open your eyes. The post, written by Jane Doe is a clear example of this.

I'm sure that Jane's story story has touched alot of us, whether we suffer from eating disorders or not. She put it out there, stripped naked if you will, and layed it on the line. I, for one thank her.

It takes alot of courage to put your problems out there, to share your feelings, in and effort to help people understand. It really brings home the fact (which we are all aware, I'm sure) that things are not always what they seem, in many different ways.

As Jane portrayed, society has a way of putting pressure on us by focusing on what people should look like. For that matter, you could add your education (where did you go to school?), the size and location of your house, your children, your religious beliefs. The list is endless and it seems that no matter which way you turn, you are judged, by all those things, and many more, too numerous and mind numbing to think about.

Whatever happened to the saying, "do not judge a book by its cover?" as much as I hate to coin that phrase. Jane made me realize (again) that it is the person on the inside that you need to discover, not the package that holds it all together. I, for one, will stop trying to judge "how pretty the bows and ribbons are," but enjoy the gift inside.

Thank you Jane.

Let's discuss. What are your feelings? First go over to Heather's and read Jane's post, just below mine. Then, come back and let me know what you think.

Guest Post by Heather

Hey y'all. Heather here. Our good friend Moogie asked me to guest post while she's on vacation. I hesitated at first because I have stage fright. But, for Moogie, I decided to get over it and help a sister out. I told Moogie not to expect much because fear seemed to have dried up my creative juices and wiped my brain clean of any ideas that would make for a good post. So Moogie asked me a few questions to help me get past my writer's block. Without further adieu, here's the answer to Moogie's first question.

What made you decide to be a nurse? Is that what you always wanted to be when you grew up? Was there a significant event in your life that made you want to be a nurse?

I have fond memories of nurses from my childhood. I have severe asthma and was hospitalized once for status asthmaticus and several times for bronchitis and acute asthma attacks.

I remember waking up once and being so hypoxic that I couldn't even get out of bed. My mother checked on me to see why I wasn't getting ready for school and immediately loaded me in the car and raced to the doctor's office. Once there, I received several breathing treatments and three shots of epinephrine. One of the nurses had urged me to eat something to help with the shakiness and queasiness caused by the medications. At some point during the day, I had eaten french fries. After spending the majority of the day in the doctor's office, I still wasn't moving much air. So, the office nurse helped my mother load me into the car and I was sent off to the hospital. I remember the nurse's kindness and concern for me. How did I repay her? By leaning out of the car window and vomiting up french fries. I still remember her putting her cool hand on my forehead and cooing, "It's okay, sweetie. You are very sick. Don't worry about it."

I don't know about you, but I think Grace's mother-in-law ROCKS! I've always known that Grace is a talented and gifted writer. But I would think it would be hard to be anything but that, when you have someone like Mrs. Clara M. visiting you.

This woman is 88 years young, and can still get down with the best of us!

Read more about the lovely woman here and here.

Thank you for sharing a little bit of this beautiful woman with us Grace.

What does this look like to you?

Looks like our favorite mullet had a little bit too much of this one's artillery punch.

Me thinks he got involved in some "bumping" as well.

Tell me my favorite bus driver, is he old enough to have whiskers? (thanks for the pic).

I think that Mamacita, over at Scheiss Weekly has the right idea. I'm going to jump on the band wagon here, and join her.

By the way, my parents were seriously mean too!

I got this in an email from Chase, a good friend of mine. I won't go into detail, but he and Suzanne, from Comtemblogging, are, well...you go read it. :) Wish him luck here, in my comments, and I'll make sure he gets it or here, which is his blog.

Good luck Chase! We are pulling for you!

I have a secret..… For those of you who have been in the loop all week, now is the time. In a couple of hours, Suzanne and I, accompanied by a few of my family members, and some close friends will be on the beach at Tybee Island, where the 4th of July fireworks come a day early. When the sky lights up tonight, I am going to ask Suzanne to marry me. Several of you have arranged to re-broadcast this on your blogs, and soon everyone on the world wide web from California to Austrailia will know, except her. Wish me well, but whatever you do, Please don't call. Thanks again to you all... I've enclosed a picture of the ring she's getting. -Chase

My lovely, with child, friend, Miss Zoot has posted about sweet tea. Or in her case? Fake sweet tea.

And me? I like my tea dark and strong, like I like my men. What is it with this sweet tea stuff? We folks from the west never even heard of sweet tea. Sweet tea is for wimps. Heh.

I remember when I first came here. We went to dinner and I ordered iced tea. The waitress asked "sweet" or "unsweet?" I, being the long in tooth, short in brains transplanted Californian that I am, became immediately confused.

I replied "if I want any sugar, I'll just add it myself, thanks."

Ok, I know I'm in the south now, and drinking unsweet tea will surely land me in purgatory for an indeterminate amount of time, but come ON.

Unsweet tea. Is there really any other kind? Sweet tea indeed.

For the record, I still love Zoot and will respect her in the morning. I suspect that drinking sweet tea is due to a surge in hormones from her pregnancy.

What about you? Sweet tea or unsweet? Anything else served or called differently in the states, or other countries?

I met him at the Wrekyll Jekyll. I spoke with him face to face. I listened to his stories about work and life. And I never knew.

...I like to wear lacy thong panties, or strap on a ten inch black rubber...

Some things should just never be made public.

I was browsing through my blogroll, and was reading one of my favorite bloggers, and I got the most exciting news!

Carmi, a most talented journalist, was mentioned on a radio talk show. They were discussing one of his most recent columns about about the experiences of losing a pet.

If you haven't already read his blog, go do so now. He is a wonderful writer, and his posts inspire me to think, really think. His writing has quite often forced me to look deep inside myself, and consider what is really important in my life, and to be thankful of those things I already possess.

Go take a peek, and give him a big congratulations.

Congrats Carmi! You deserve it.
