My husband was holding the camera on this one, but, truth be told, we BOTH need to work on the whole "taking a video" thing. As I was watching the video, I kept saying,...ZOOM OUT! GET THE FLYERS! I will be honest and say, I probably would have done the same thing. Lessons learned and all that.

My husband bought me a video editing program that has a lot of bells and whistles, but unfortunately, not a good users manual to go with it. I played around a lot with all of the settings and this is what I came up with. I apologize for the music in advance. The next time through, I need to take a look at what I have in my collection and pick out something better. The main thing for me this time around was to see if I could figure out the program and what I could do as well as how to do it.

At any rate, here's my first stab at it. You can recognize Meelie. She's the one with the designer shoe. Please note, there is another girl who has a broken arm, complete with a cast. Notice, the two of them are in the same "group" and there are no flyers? Further more Meelie isn't doing any stunts but you can see she is doing alot of arm waving and leg movements.

Congratulations!!

The Ruby National Championships were held this weekend and the results are as follows:

Rubies: 1st Place
Onyx: 2nd Place
Saphires: 1st Place (this is the team Meelie is on!)

(Side Note: Each of these teams are in a different level)

Woot!

It's a bit crazy around here this week so the posting has been light the last few days. In the mean time I wanted to share with you that I have found out that I really need my hearing to be checked. Quite often, I listen to the radio station (ok all the time) that my kids like. There is a song entitled "Apple bottom Jeans" (I believe it's by Flow Rider according to Chickie-please correct me if I'm wrong). According to the kids, I continually screw up the lyrics. Here is an example.

Lyrics: Apple Bottom Jeans
I hear: Apple Butt Cheeks

Lyrics: Pornography Poster
I hear: Pornography Toaster

I'll be making a doctor's appointment soon.

In the mean time, here is a photo of the SAPHIRES holding the first place trophy. Everyone got a chance to hold it if they wanted to.

See you soon!

I've attached a couple of videos that I was going to add to yesterday's post, but Vimeo apparently had some heavy traffic and it was taking a lot of time to convert them. Both of these are from the competition yesterday.

Before everything started, the sponsors of the competition brought out some of the girls who were a little farther along in their gymnast capabilities "show their stuff" (Cheer Camden team members). Meelie, a newcomer (she started in June) seems to be catching on fast. As her mom, I'm alternately thrilled and terrified at some of the things she is doing. I apologize for the lack of quality and visibility on both of these videos. I took these on my digital camera. Next time, I'm I'll bring the video recorder.

Note: I've found that if you click on the title of the video it will give you a large screen which provides you with better visibility.

To see the complete set with explanations, go here.

Here I am, sitting in front of the computer thinking about every last thing I want to tell you about today. Most of you know (because I've mentioned it several times on this blog) that my youngest daughter is in Cheer Leading, or what is known as "Competitive Cheer Leading." The major difference is that they are allowed to do a lot of stunts that the regular cheer leading teams can't (there are so many rules, I don't think I can keep up with them).

Today was the first of the competitions. The Saphires (Meelie's team), didn't compete in this one as they are not part of the Rec Centers. For them, this was a chance to show some of their stuff, as well as get a taste of what it would be like to cheer in front of an audience. They had a blast, and so did I.

Meelie wasn't very excited this morning. She was thinking of quitting, because practice was so hard.. They had to do their routine over and over (and over) again. She was just so tired of it all. It was with great trepidation that I walked with her to the gymnasium this morning. She is my negative child (glass half empty), and it is difficult to lift her up out of that mood when her heels are dug firmly into the ground.

When we entered the double doors, her shoulders were hunched tightly about her ears. Her expression was stone cold. I braced myself for a battle, that, if was not carefully negotiated, could turn into something very ugly. Just as I was about to take her aside and talk to her, the music started for one of the team's warm ups. The transformation happened right before my eyes, but it was so sudden, I was not sure if it was real. She straightened up, her eyes widened, and a wonderful smile lit up her face. That was all it took. I said a quick prayer of thanks, and the rest of the day went smoothly. Some days you get chickens. Some day you get rotten eggs. I love me some poultry.

There are no words to describe the atmosphere. The cheering, the music, the excitement. It was contagious. Lord help me when a real competition comes up because I don't think I will be able to contain myself. It's good stuff.
