This week's topic over on Blog Fodder is a good one. Not only that, it's easy, and I'm all for the easy.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?

Do I have a word limit for this one?

Ok, here they are, in no particular order:

  1. Nurse
  2. Police Officer
  3. Social Worker
  4. Probation Officer
  5. Physical Therapist
  6. Lawyer
  7. Graphic Artist
  8. Engineer

That's only a partial list. When I got out of high school, I went to a Junior (Community) College because I honestly didn't know what I wanted to "be when I grew up." Then I decided to move out from the comforts of my parent's home, and live on my own And experience life! The real world! Paying my own bills! Making my own decisions! Did I mention paying my own bills?

The funny thing about this whole thing is that I got along really well with my parents. I had passed the point of "they are so stupid and don't know anything" and moved on to a point in which I really enjoyed being with them. In fact, when I first moved out, I probably spent more time with them than I did in my own apartment.

I would say that I have regretted that decision ever since but on the flip side, I would never have experienced what I have so far if I didn't make that move. Don't get me wrong. If I had it to do all over again I would have stayed home and gotten the degree. Instead, I went to school part time, here and there, while holding a full time job. The education? She was sporadic. In my late 30's I decided it was time and went back to school (still working) but this time? I had the benefit of being married with two small children. I am here to tell you that it was really hard. But I did it in a little over two years AND I graduated, with honors even. It felt so good to have done something entirely for me, because "I" wanted it. I am oh-so-glad I have that behind me now.

So there you have it, albeit in a little more of an expanded version than I originally planned. I still don't know what I want to be when "I grow up" but I'm pretty happy with the job I have now.

It's your turn now. What did you want to be when you grew up? Don't forget to leave a link over in the comments at Blog Fodder so that we can all come over and check it out. Heck, I'll go easy on you. If it's easier, just leave it in the comments.

This week's topic was submitted to us by Maremagnum. When I posted the topic over at Blog Fodder. I asked Mar how she came up with the name for her blog. And here is what I found out:

Hi and thanks for using this topic and thanks for asking about the name of my blog. First it begins with the three letters of my blogging name :) And it's used in Spanish to describe a situation of many things without a given order, not necessarily chaos, just many things simultaneously taking place like in a wide ocean, fish swimming, waves, tide, you name it. It comes form Latin mare (ocean) and magnum (large). I think it pretty well summarizes the nature of my blog ! Happy blogging!

Thanks Mar! And now, this week's topic!

Give an example of a meal that makes you happy.

At first I thought of quite a few answers for this topic. Then I narrowed it down to foods. But when I really got down and thought about it, there is one meal that sticks in my mind. Most of the family picks this for their birthday dinner, and we have it for the Christmas meal as well.

Grammy's Chicken Pie
Grammy's famous homemade mashed potatoes.
Corn
Green beans with bacon
Fruit salad
Lettuce salad

Someone roll me away from the dinner table please. Meelie No's birthday is at the end of March, and we'll be down at my folk's house to celebrate it. I'll give you three guesses as to what meal she picked and the first two don't count. This year will be different because Grammy isn't going to make the chicken pie, I will. Of course, Grammy will be there giving me pointers all the way. I've made it before, but it seems to be lacking so I'm looking forward to learning all of her trade secrets.

For those of you interested, Meelie wants Mom's (did you notice I got to use my name?) Ice Cream Cake for her birthday. I've got a great recipe (EASY) for anyone who's interested. For her actual birthday party at home (with friends) she wants me to make a Tinkerbell Cake, which is going to take some creative thinking on my part.

Be sure to check here for a list of this week's participants. Won't you join us this week? You don't have to sign up, or be a regular, but I would love to hear what meal makes you happy. Just be sure and go here and let us know you participated (a link back to Blog Fodder would be appreciated) or just post your favorite meal in the comments.

I look forward to hearing about it.

"A complete lunatic, you're operating on 100% animal instincts. You thrive on uncontrolled energy, and you're downright scary. But you sure can beat a good drum. "Kill! Kill!"

This is a direct quote, taken from Laquet's blog, and she happens to be the person who submitted the topic for this week's Blog Fodder.

People, I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to risk upsetting "The Animal." So get in there and kill! Er...I mean, submit your post and while your at it? Have a wonderful week!

What do you see when you look out of your living room / kitchen / bedroom window? You can do this with photos if you would like.

I want you to note that I am early this week for Blog Fodder. Not that there is necessarily a "late" in this case, as you have all week to participate, and you can even post on older topics if that is your wish. I just wanted to point that out, because, you know, there are certain people close to me that believe I can't be on time for anything unless there is chocolate involved.

I don't want to drag this on too much as last week, my dear friend Melli (not MelliE, just Melli, or the Queen of the Curvettes) got seriously frustrated at my penchant for going on, and on, and on, and on, and on about nothing in particular and I want to show her that I can get to the point. At least sometime in this century. Maybe.

Reigning in my gossipy chattering walkabout tendencies, I'll jump ahead to the subject at hand. THANK.THE.LORD!

This week's topic is brought to us by (the letter A!) Heather, over at Blog Blah, Blah. Miss Heather brings up a fabulous question, which I have posted below in the extended entry, along with my reply.

I am nothing, if not fashionably late. Of course, my husband may disagree with you because he is one, who not only likes to get where we are going on time; he likes to get there early. We have had some heated discussions, which usually leave me grovelling at his feet, because, yes it's my fault, and I will promise to try to do better, honest I will, please don't lock me in the closet again. Oh, I didn't realize you were still reading. Moving right along!

The paragraph above was meant to make you roll your eyes and say "WILL YOU GET TO THE POINT WOMAN? THIS IS ABOUT BLOG FODDER!" Did you know that there is this little vein on the side of your head that pops out when you are frustrated with me? No? Was it ok that I told you? I could probably help you hide it with a little bit of makeup.

Now, where was I?

Oh yes, this week's Blog Fodder topic was brought to you by Rob over at My Bloody Great Nutshell.

Name a sensory input(s) which trigger a mood change be it uplifting, depressing, poignancy or remind you of a past event or period in time. Examples - the smell of an aftershave or perfume, a song, a baby crying, the sound of a vegas slot machine, the feel of clean sheets, the taste of a childhood drink.

This week's topic was submitted by Melonie, over at The Joy of Being Melonie. This delightful woman has SIX children and is going to school, so I somehow think this topic is near and dear to her heart!

How does one handle work, home and family (or a combination thereof) without having a nervous breakdown?

Two words. Alcohol. Ok, that's only one but if you drink enough, it will look like two. Not that I have had any experience with that.

Karen, over at Write From Karen, is still without power (major ice storms), and submitted the topic for this week's Blog Fodder. Won't you go on over and give her some encouragement? They've certainly persevered during the worst of times.

This week's topic is another good one.

This week's topic was brought to you by Kim, over at Kimbofo. I have to tell you people, just trying to pick one thing made me so hungry. Thanks so much Kim for submitting the topic! I look forward to seeing all of the responses!

What is your most memorable meal? Why?

That growling you hear is my stomach. There were several meals to choose from, but if I had to pick my favorite, it would be one of them from our honeymoon.

For the first week, we stayed at the Lake Quinalt Lodge, located in Washington. It was beautiful. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. There were no phones in the rooms, and there was only one big screen TV in the bar, in which the sound was broken. There was a huge bearskin rug in front of the fireplace in our room. The only restaurant was located near the lake, and each table had a fantastic view. It really didn't matter where you sat, because you could see everything.

They had a special for honeymooners, in which you could have a free meal, from top to bottom, no matter what the cost. I remember this because I had Fillet Mignon and LOBSTER. I don't know if I had ever, or have since, tasted such a wonderful meal. The atmosphere only added to the perfection.

I'm sure alot of it had to do with being newly married, but much of it was due to the ambience that the lodge had created. I remember we ate at the same restaurant most evenings, and we always waited for a table at the window because we wanted to have the very best of views.

Some days I wish I could go back to that day, but it probably wouldn't be as special as I remember it. I would just assume leave the memories as they are, and bask in new love, which has only become stronger and deeper as time has gone on.

For the first week of 2007 the topic comes from Marie, over at PractiGal.

"Tell us something about your in-laws (funny, memories, etc.). If you don't have any in-laws, pick a relative like siblings, parents, etc."

One of the funniest things that I remember about my Mother-In-Law was the time I first met her. It was over the Thanksgiving holiday. Mr. OWW were not married at the time, and we went to visit his folks for the holiday.

It was a big family get together, complete with "the boys," whom my Mother-in-Law had informally "adopted over the years. Keep in mind that these guys had known each other for quite some time, and some had even served in the Navy together.

During dinner, they started to tell really bad jokes, and some of them were, how shall we say, not something that should be told at the dinner table. Everyone was laughing and groaning, and my Mother-in-Law calmly got up from the table and went into the kitchen. When she came back into the dining room and had her hand behind her back. She walked over to one of the "boys" who was sitting closest to where she was standing and promptly started whacking him with a wooden spoon. At that point, all the boys quickly jumped up from the table and ran away. She then calmly went and got a glass of water.

I thought it prudent at the time to get out of the way, so I went and sat on the stairwell. My Mother-in-Law went after my husband who was doing his best to avoid her while laughing so hard he could hardly breathe. He spotted me on the stairwell and quickly got behind me, only my Mother-in-Law didn't realize that I was in front of him until it was too late. She through the water at him, which, since I was in front, landed squarely on me.

She was mortified but by that time, everyone was laughing so hard, including me, that she realized that I wasn't offended. Just wet.

Needless to say, she always would give me a warning before she ever went after one of the boys again.

Holy smokes people! Somebody should have warned me about kids and school/other activities in the weeks before Christmas. And all of the extra practicing that goes with it. Tonight is the first time I've been home for more than one hour straight. When you add homework to the list, you kind of lose all sense of time. It's sheer bliss when your head hits the pillow at night.

Now, where was I? Oh yes, Blog Fodder.

This week's topic was submitted by Jean-Luc Picard. He has the honor of kicking off Blog Fodder. Without further ado, I present to you, this week's topic.
