And I'll Huff, and Puff, and BLOW Your House Down!

My girlfriend and I have been walking nearly every night. We've now made it up to about three miles. I think we'll stay there for a while, if the way I feel right now (after a walk) says anything.

When we first started off, I literally felt as if I was going to die. Everything hurt. Well, from the waist on down anyway. My legs, Achilles tendon, ankles, what have you felt like an over used, unappreciated, overworked, underpaid...rubber band. No joke. I was miserable and I HATED going on our walk. But I did it anyway.

Something happened today. I'm not sure what it was, but finally, finally, after nearly three weeks of walking? It felt almost good. Once I got over the burning (oh the buuuurrrrnnning) in my legs, I lengthened my stride and kept up a good pace. When I came home, I was hot and sweaty but it in a good way. I sat for a bit and drank some water, cooling down, but all the while thinking that perhaps, this might be something I can do. I can get in shape. It really won't kill me. You know what? I'm starting to like it.

I have new walking shoes and "I'm running faster and jumping higher."

I just might make it after all.

6:00 am Update: Oh mah hell no. Stiff and sore. I must have really worked hard last night as my stomach muscles are sore too. It's ok though! I am still looking forward to tonight. Anyone have any Ibuprofen?

12:05 pm Update: The sore muscles have traveled up to my stomach and arms. I still am determined to walk again tonight (I have been stretching off and on all day). I will NOT let sore muscles deter me! I am WOMAN! Hear me moan meow ROAR! (ouch!)

6:47 pm Update: My girlfriend is on her way home from work. I wonder if she would think I wasn't home if I closed all the blinds, closed the garage door and turned of all of the lights? Oh, and just let the answering machine pick up. Think it would work?

8:05 pm Update: I made it through the walk but when I was through, I looked as though I had just come out of the shower. I collapsed on the driveway but was able to "Army crawl" up to the garage. My husband was able to use my office chair to wheel me up to my computer but my arms were too weak to type this latest update so I had to dictate it to him.

Thematic Photographic 5 - Sky

Never let it be said that I'm on time for ANYTHING! Just ask my husband. And my kids. But I digress people! This is week five of Thematic Photography, over at Carmi's place. As I'm sure you have deduced by the title, the theme is Sky. Do you realize how many pictures I took this week? Thankfully, I've got some to choose from but I'm sure you are grateful that I'll only be submitting one. Well, one of my own and then I'm going to also submit one from the ever so talented OWW, my other half.

Would you like to play with us this week? Here are the rules:

  1. Carmi posts a new entry every Wednesday evening.
  2. Each entry has a unique theme. This week's is...sky!
  3. You post a similarly themed image over on your blog.
  4. You paste a link to your entry in a comment here.
  5. If you've already posted something that fits (on a blog, Facebook, MySpace, wherever) simply post the link to the existing entry.
  6. Repeat process as often as you wish. Send this link to friends, too...the more, the merrier.

This was an interesting week to participate in. I find it difficult to capture the many different variations of the sky. I played with quite a few different settings to see what I could come up with. I'm still playing with the new camera and have so much more to learn. I have to say that I'm enjoying it immensely. A big hearty round of applause for Carmi for starting this up.

Firesky

This is a picture of a sunset my husband took while sitting in our front yard. I was cooking dinner and he was visiting with some neighbors when all of a sudden he came in for the camera. This picture really depicts our phenomenal sunsets. I've always thought it would be pretty cool to take a picture every night of the sunset, and then see how they compare. The colors are vibrant and powerful.

The Storm

We have been having fairly regular late afternoon, early evening storms here, which is usual for this time of year. This particular one came with a fierce wind and thunder and lightening which made you feel as though the storm was at your front door. I don't know about you but I love thunder and lightening. The louder the better. The harder the rain, the better. Let me preface all of that by saying "if I am inside." Preferably at home. I tried to capture the different variations of the sky (it was so DARK in places) by focusing on the house across the street which offered some contrast. I found that when I took a picture of the sky itself, with nothing to bounce it off of, I couldn't capture the true look.

This wasn't here yesterday

Oiy. I don't know if I've told you but I have been walking nearly every night. For the first time, I'm not hurting really bad from the waist on down. It's been about two weeks now, and I'm finally reaping some of the benefits. I'm not living on Ibuprofen, and everything except my Achilles tendon in my left foot has decided to stop complaining. Loudly. That I can live with. Oiy. I'm up to three miles now. Barely. But I'm getting there and it seems to not only help my physical state (I sleep better, have more energy) but my mental state as well. I no longer come home from work dreaming about going to bed. Well I do, but it's for a completely different reasons. Now when I get home from work, I cook dinner, we eat and then I go for my walk. And THEN..I dream about bed. Generally I lay in the center of my bed, under the fan, praying for snow. To cool me off. It's all good. As long as I don't have to move after that.

I'm going to keep this short tonight. I've promised some one on one time with the youngest because Chickie is with a friend. I wonder if I can talk Meelie into going to bed before 9:00. What do you think?

Constipation and Boobs

Contrary to the title, this is not about bowel movements and headlights.

I don't know how many of you have heard of Mad Libs but they are a popular item in my household. I probably have no less than four that are in the back of my car, along with a various assortment of pencils to fill them in. At any given time, the girls will pull one of them out of the pocket in the back seat and I will hear: "Give me a noun, give me an adjective; give me an adverb, etc." I'm not proud to admit that when we started in with these I actually had to look up what some of the definitions were (adverbs, adjectives). It had been so long since I have had to identify basic sentence parts that my mind was rusty. Go ahead and laugh while I just roll my eyes and put my lack of memory down to being old and having children. Or something.

We play this game almost every time we are in the car, rocking out to various artists that my kids love, and I, for the life of me, can never remember the names of. Yesterday it suddenly occurred to me that in almost every one of these that the kids fill out, the words "constipation and/or boobs(ies)" are used. Sure enough, when the girls looked through the book, we found that to be true 80% of the time. They then proceeded to read every one of them to me again.

I'm not sure if this is a reflection of my parenting or that my children are crazy. I'm voting for the latter and then calling my mom to apologize about the title. I'll also thank her for not killing me before I became an adult.
