Sunday, November 19

This has been a whirlwind of a weekend, and it's not because I have started my Christmas shopping yet, thank you very much. We just had a lot of errands to run. We got all of them accomplished, and that included my weekly grocery shopping.

Do you do ever do something dumb and NOT learn from it? Normally, I'm a quick learner, but sometimes, you need to roll over me with a truck to get things to sink in. I'm just that dense. Or perhaps my parents would say stubborn. With me, it's hard to tell the difference.

What is the one cardinal rule about grocery shopping? Never, ever, ever go shopping when you are hungry. Never. This morning my girlfriend called and she was heading into the city to go to Sam's Club and then finish up at our local grocery store. She came over and asked if I wanted to go, and I did, so I quickly hopped into the shower and got ready.

I hadn't eaten anything for breakfast and it was about 10:30 when we left. I love Sam's Club. It's just like Costco. I tend to get my meats there, as well as snacks and a few other popular items that I use regularly. I had to restrain myself from buying out the entire store. I was that hungry. I managed to get out of there without having to sell my husband on the street, so that was a good thing, but I'm here to tell you it was very close.

I'm just thankful they have "samples" there. At least it took the edge off.

I really do love Costco except for one thing. They don't bag your items, (makes for interesting times when you are loading up your car, and then carrying them into the house) and they all come in bulk sizes. Which means that when you get home, you have to figure out where to store everything. Furthermore, I never seem to get out of there for under $200. Oh wait, that's three things. Maybe Math isn’t much subject after all. Carry on.

You're focused is all. We have a Sam's Club nearby, and your observations are bang on. I think I know the sample ladies all on a first-name basis.

We bought big plastic backets from a nearby grocer - they fit into the two-level carts at Sam's and Costco, and they let you bring 'em in. Saves on bags and boxes.

I'll re-read this entry before we next venture into the land of the big box.

Ahhh...Costco...Both my lovely store, and my evil store. Even worse when I bring the kiddos and they see the bulk size boxes of gumballs and licorice. Let the tantrums begin!

All. The. Friggin. Time.

And one of those things I don't learn? Is not to go grocery shopping when I'm hungry. And also that if I DO go when I'm hungry, not only will I spend twice as much, but it will take twice as long. Feh.

Michele sent me!

it's easy to have a love/hate relationship with Sams and Cosco. I try not to go to those kind of stores but twice a year and when I'm hosting some kind of big shin-dig. Otherwise, I'll shop in the small market in town.

As for your topics, maybe one should be on how to find the perfect Christmas gifts for those who have everything.

Moogie there are 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't :P (or something like that).. I don't go shopping when hungry either but I tend to be able to grab food before actually doing any food shopping, although this is a rare thing, me and shopping just don't mix really, although no let's not go there I'd just start to sound wierd (okay weirder :P)

I honestly try not to go grocery shopping when I am hungry but sometimes the schedule doesn't allow a snack and there I am, buying groceries as if we were going to leave on vacation for a month and we didn't have a store in the neighborhood!! What I hate the most is storing the food afterwards!!

Here from Michele this time.
We do the Costco thing too. My Dad loves to test all the samples... sometimes twice if he really likes the stuff. I think he could make a whole meal off of the samples. But then he has figured out which day is the best day to go.
