Uncle John’s Electrifying Bathroom Reader, For Kids Only! (By the Bathroom Reader’s Institute)
I kid you not. That is the title of the book that Chickie picked out on our jaunt to Books A Million this afternoon. In all honesty, the book is filled with fascinating, yet sometimes rather odd facts.
In one chapter, they talk about towns and how they are used to describe the land around them. They go on to list a few of them that make you wonder just what the founders were smoking. I’ve listed a few of them below.
- Burnt Corn, Alabama
- Toad Suck, Arkansas
- Gas, Kansas
- Hoop and Holler, Texas
- Bumpass, Virginia
- Okay, Oklahoma (Get it? Okay, OK?)
What about you? Do you know of any funny named towns?

There's a village called Nut Crackers in Devon, I've seen it signposted a few times when I've been down that way...always tickles me!

All over the UK there are strange place names.
Scotland has probably the most famous of them "Lost" that's right there is a place called "Lost" and the local council are sick of replacing the sign as it keeps being stolen... Im sure I can come up with a few more corkers given time.

Yeehaw Junction, Florida. I even managed to get a picture of a highway sign as we drove past.
I might also mention Carmi, IL, but there's nothing funny about that!

Don't know any here in the US off the top of my head, but Australia gets me with Toowoomba and Wagga Wagga.
