It's always fascinated me to watch people go wild over celebrities. They join the fan clubs, and know just about everything that has ever been in print about the person in question. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being a fan, but I really think some folks take it one step too far.
How many times have we read about someone being shot by a crazed fan? Too many to count, I would think.
I remember reading a story in which a soap opera star was talking about the many times he's been approached by people off the street. I'm guessing his character was a nasty guy because he said that one time, and elderly lady came toward him, shaking her cane and saying "How dare you treat that poor girl that way? You are scum and should be ashamed of yourself."
That's why they call it acting. Go figure.
It's scary to watch the number of people who get so caught up in the personnae of a character, they forget that there is a real person inside, completely different from the role they are playing. What fans can really say they "know" a celebrity? My guess would be, not many.
The same could hold true for the blogosphere. You have a popular blog, you are liable to get the followers. The ones that, for whatever reason believe they know you the best, and will defend you with their last breath. Sure, it's nice to get a mention in their blog from time to time. Who doesn't like that?
But let's get real for a moment. A blog is a written journal. You are never really sure if you are getting the sense of the real person on the keyboard, or just what they want you to see.
Take me for example. I don't post about everything for a number of reasons. How many of you really know me? The real me, and not just what I write about here? The stories I tell are true, but I've not given you the full picture.
Moving on, how many times have you read about a celebritie's death? Only to wake up to a myriad of rumors about how him/her died? Why do we even care? We really don't know that person. We've based our thoughts on what we have read, or what characters they have played. You see so many quotes from "friends" who know them so well. It just floors me.
Quite frankly, the finger pointing during these times makes me lose my lunch. Does it really matter how they died? Will it bring them back if you know? I wish people would think more about the survivors, the family. It's my feeling that they are the only one's who have the right to that knowledge.
Something to think about anyway.

I seem to have missed a post. I still have not figured out how this happens. Your cake looks wonderful! I hope you all had a great 4th. Your plans sounded good. I can understand what you are saying in this post. I could never figure that out myself. I don't watch any television and the news I watch on the computer is not about celebrities. I don't keep up with sports either. As far as someone being shot the two thoughts that come to mind are JFK and Reagan. See how out of the loop I am. I don't know anyone who is a groupie or a celebrity fan either.

Good point. I use my own blog as a writen journal trying to get to know myself.
Doesn't work very well.
I've kept a daily journal for over 25 years and I still don't know what's going on in my life. Since I've begun posting my journal as a blog, I find I'm altogether to aware that now other people are reading over my shoulder and that limits how much of myself I want to reveal.

I for one am a movie goer. And I have an admitted fixation with J D....but I don't carry it out of the house other than viewing movies in a theater. My 'fixation' as you will, is only fantasy.
But on the other hand, I recall all of the hulabaloo about O J Simpson's trial...and Martha Stewart recently, news media on the criminals like Son of Sam and the one in Washington D C area just within the last few years...an unkown girl in Aruba---all covered highly on TV, in magazines, and in newspapers.
Tho, Moogie, to an extent I agree with your blog---I'm inclined to say that the 'fixations' of celebs and deaths of certain people are all brought on highly by the media. You see it on television, read about it, hear about it on radio talk shows...and it brings in revenue. That is what it's all about. Money. If some story coverage will bring in big bucks...the people will stop and watch/listen/read about---yet, if you think about it, if you DIDN'T hear about it, read about it, watch it, or talk/gossip...then, there would be nothing known.
That's just my opinion. And I'll continue to have my fantasies....only, for one--I don't get carried away with it, nor do I ignore my OWN kind...family.
Good point tho.

I think I get your point moogie, your right not everything can be gleamed from what you right here, nor e-mails, the only true way to know a person is to meet them face to face. I do however try to be as honest as possible but then again Im sure I'd be "quietly taken" to some nice place, with birds and trees, to the funny farm...... or however that song goes..

You're damned straight on that one Moogie. Damned straight. I met the "actor", once. I still didn't know him completely, but after readin' the actor for so long, and finally meetin' him, I too wish the shit storm would just dry up. It seems that some cannot just let it go. From what "I could tell" he wasn't one to waller in shit like this for so long and it'd piss him off to know he was bein' dragged through it. I don't care which side of the fence you're on with this one. Stop it already. It's gettin' way old...

I really am not big on any celebrity but , like you, I don't reveal too much about my life in my blog either...opening up is hard for me anyway but really difficult with strangers. *s*
