My lovely, with child, friend, Miss Zoot has posted about sweet tea. Or in her case? Fake sweet tea.
And me? I like my tea dark and strong, like I like my men. What is it with this sweet tea stuff? We folks from the west never even heard of sweet tea. Sweet tea is for wimps. Heh.
I remember when I first came here. We went to dinner and I ordered iced tea. The waitress asked "sweet" or "unsweet?" I, being the long in tooth, short in brains transplanted Californian that I am, became immediately confused.
I replied "if I want any sugar, I'll just add it myself, thanks."
Ok, I know I'm in the south now, and drinking unsweet tea will surely land me in purgatory for an indeterminate amount of time, but come ON.
Unsweet tea. Is there really any other kind? Sweet tea indeed.
For the record, I still love Zoot and will respect her in the morning. I suspect that drinking sweet tea is due to a surge in hormones from her pregnancy.
What about you? Sweet tea or unsweet? Anything else served or called differently in the states, or other countries?

I was acutally raised in The South, and my family drinks unsweetened tea. I still don't understand sweet tea... or sweetener in coffee for that matter. Yuck.

I will say that I do put creamer in my coffee..quite often the flavored kind. I've just never gotten the idea of sweet tea, though I should say, if I had it while growing up, I'd probably be hooked as well. :)

I've never had sweet tea and I get the same looks you do when I order unsweetened tea. I do know that here in the south, sweet tea is manna from heaven. And I mean SWEET tea...PS. I was raised up North, that may be the clue..

I am from Texas and it is pretty much sweet tea everywhere you go. I admit, sweet tea is my preference!

Sorry Moogie ya got me on this one.. However I drink my tea, hot, nicely brew with proper milk (not cream and not 50/50 / semi-skimmed - the full fat stuff) and some proper sugar... Oh and it's normally Assam or Enlish Breakfast or Earl Grey dependant on my mood..

I'm a southerner by heart, so i'll have to say sweet! however, i'm trying to cut back, so i've been not using as much sugar.

Native Californian that I am, I drink my tea sweetened with sugar, if it's iced tea. If it's hot herbal tea, it's sweetened with honey, and if it's hot black tea (preferably decaf Earl Grey), there is no sweetener; just some half & half. Did I miss a Californian memo about drinking unsweetened tea only?

I am a sweet tea kind of girl. I grew up all over (south, north, overseas, etc), but sweet tea is for me.

Unsweetened with one or two sugar packets for a LIGHT taste of sugar. I never did understand sweet tea. I mean, why not just cut to the chase and do some maple syrup shots?
