No, I'm not talking about me. That would have to be titled something like "The Center of Gravity Begins at the Hips," or some such.

My 10 year old (Moobear) has never been one that was vertically challenged. At 10, she is 5'1", and wears a size 8 1/2 WOMAN'S shoe. Yes, you read it right the first time. I'm telling you, this child is all legs. They go from here to China. And she is slim, but muscular. 12 (children's) are too small for her yet when I go to 14's, the length is there, but they are too snug. Moving on up to 1 juniors, presents a different problem. While they fit her everywhere else, they are a bit too long.

Luckily, my trend setting daughter reminded me that it was fashionable to roll up the pants legs. They even sell pants that allow for that nowadays. Go figure, eh? I am just thankful that it doesn't mean I have to hem them. I suck at sewing.

Don't even get me started about shirts. In order to find one that goes past her naval, I have to buy a size in which the shoulder seam goes down to her elbow.

Oh, one more thing. Try to find a shoe that is suitable for a child who wears and 8 1/2 WOMAN'S.

I'm hoping that one day, all of her body parts will catch up to one another. It's either that or I'm going to have to start dressing her in a burlap bag.

My daughter at 3 is kind of like that, she fits into 4T, but the length is starting to get short on her, but the other sizes are too big in the waist. I am a zaftig woman, go figure I would have a skinny one :-)

I so can relate to this. My oldest is eleven, wears a size 9 women's shoe, a size 3 in juniors(which do not fit properly) and is 5'2". Shoes are difficult to find. I should clarify I mean appropriate shoes. Then their are the tops. They either show too much of her developing top or too much of her stomach. It is very frustrating.

Yep - my oldest girl just turned 11 and is also 5' 1" and wearing a woman's 8 1/2 shoe and I can't stand it...'cause she's borrowing my shoes ;o) Nice job on the site, btw!

First of all, great site Moogie, you gave me fright back there when you started with goodbye, but you have created a fantastic site...I love it.
Also all the kids I know these days seem to have big feet (including my own kids). Must be something in the water.

The trend for boys clothes is for everything to be long and baggy - but my son has enough of a belly on him that the size pants I buy him are WAAAAAY too long. And I dont bother hemming b/c I sew like I cook: poorly.

That poor child sounds like me. I have Marfan's syndrome, so growing up I was always a head taller than all of my friends...and these mad-crazy long legs!

Thankfully, it is easier now to find a specialty fit now than it was then. I go to Buckle in the Mall of GA. If you have one near you, you may want to try it for the jeans.

They have almost every length/hip/waist combination imaginable. I love it. ; )

at 27, i'm just 5'2" and wear a size 6 shoe. i find that i can wear anywhere from a size 1 to a size 5 depending on the store, and they're always too long. i have "womanly" hips, though, so maybe that's part of it? i don't know ... kids today are wearing their pants really long, walking all over the backs of them and stuff, so maybe it's not a big deal for her if they're too long? hmmm ... that's what i tend to do. or i just cuff them ... but then again, i'm not a big fan of fashion.

at most places they assume that small sizes like that equals 5'8", so i may not have any good advice for you. if you're willing to spend some money (around $80) jcrew has jeans that they have petite sizes for, and those fit well on a small frame like mine or hers. and they're very up-to-the-minute styles. but like i said, they're expensive!

Deer legs, doe eyes. What a combination. My daughter has it too and it's going to be the death of her daddy someday.

In order to find pants that fit her, we 've got to size up, but then the flares she likes are "tripping over them" huge and the straight legs she hates rolled. (I can't sew my way out of a wet paper bag.) So same dilemma. So her latest favorite outfits are tights and skorts. (Also helps extend those skirts that are a wee bit too short. She's got those tights on so who cares! In junior high that'll be a different story! Then we'll be forcing ankle-length skirts on her! LOL!)
